What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? For this module i used a range of different media such as scanning hand drawn and paintedimages, spray painted images, and ink images and then scanned them into the macs to manipulate them further. I think i developed my skills by doing this a lot as i used software suchas illustrator, which i wasn't very confident using at first, and also photoshop and in design. I used alot of photography in this module, for example for categorising my 100 objects.I also learnt how to make a PDF presentation for printing the photoshop postcards which i have never done before. Now i have the skills to do this i think i will use it a lot more. I've also developed my skills in bookmaking as i had never done this before. After learning a few different stitches for binding the books i went on to use the pamphlet stitch to bind the book i made for the 100 brief.
2.What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? From my original research i had found a lot of facts and opinions from a range of different sourcessuch as books, newspapers, interviews and the internet. The facts were so different and varied so when it came to making my book (and after receiving feedback in a crit) i decided to narrow the facts and opinions to just facts and also create categories for them to go in. I made a categorypage at the start of the book and referenced the pages to these categories along with a page references where i got my facts from.
3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?I think i did quite well in finding a large range of research and using this research in my work.
4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully? When making my final book i think i could have crafted it better but considering it was the first timei had made a book it wasn't too bad. When it came to cutting out the pages for my book i found that they didn't all fit together perfectly so some had to be cut down to size a bit more. I realised once i had done this i should have left a small blank border, and not had type so close to theedges, incase mistakes were made.
5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1. I would have asked for more help when making the final book. If i had done this my book would have looked more professional and well crafted.
2. I would have sorted the pages into their categories before printing them so that they wouldhave sat together in the book like chapters. This also would have made the book look moreprofessional and would have made more sense.
3. In the group project for what if... i found it hard to communicate with the whole group and decidewho was going to work on what part of the brief. Next time i would make sure we all sat down together and discussed the work. By doing this we would of also had more time to develop the work and research as no one would be left not knowing what was going on.
4. Also for the what if brief we found that from our research that the problem we came up withwasn't clear and the solution didn't work. If we had spent more time on the research we could havecome up with a problem that could of been solved.
5. For some parts of this module i found myself not having enough time to cut things out such as photographs and the crafting products so next time i would make sure i printed things out in advanceto enable myself to have more time cutting them out.
6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor
